Dear Members and Friends;
We hope this letter finds you well. Thank you for your support throughout the year 2016. We hope you will enjoy a prosperous and healthy 2017. Please refer to the following for Gyoki service, our first major service of this year. Gyoki service pays tribute to Honen Shonin (1133-1212), the founding master of Jodo Shu, who pioneered Pure Land Buddhism in Japan which enabled common people to attain birth in the Pure Land of Amida Buddha through the practice of reciting "Namu Amida Butsu." Combining with Gyoki Service, we will offer a prayer in the memory of ministers who devoted their lives to the propagation of the teaching of Nembutsu in the United States.
Also, we will hold a memorial service for deceased children/grandchildren who unfortunately passed away at birth or in their childhood. A memorial tablet will be offered to extend a special prayer. If you wish this special prayer, please contact the temple office by Friday, January 20, 2017.
Special Ritual for Health/Prosperity of Family throughout the Year 2017 & New Year’s Party
At the beginning of the year 2017, we will perform a special ritual wishing for the health/prosperity of family members throughout the year with your offering of o-fuda (tablet) for $30 per o-fuda. If you wish to take this ritual, please return the application to the temple office by Friday, January 20, 2017. Please feel free to contact the temple office if you have any questions.
New Year’s party will follow the service, and the Fujinkai will prepare lunch to be served (including traditional New Year o-zoni). Let us celebrate the New Year and renew and find new friendships on this auspicious day. We are looking forward to seeing you at the service. Namu Amida Butsu
